All About Hakka Noodles

Here at Alings’ Chinese Restaurant, our traditional Hakka style stir-fried wheat noodles are a very popular lunch and dinner choice.

If you’ve never had Hakka noodles, you’re in for a treat. Because they’re high in protein, they’re both filling and delicious. They’re even lower in calories than many other noodle options, which means you can enjoy Hakka noodles guilt-free! They’re full of fiber too, which is good for the digestive system, and contain vitamins B, E, iron, and zinc. If you need a boost of energy to get you through a long day, Hakka noodles are a great choice.

They also have a rich history!

Hakka noodles are one of the signature dishes to have come from Chinese Migration into India during the 18th century. This migration was triggered by Mao Zedong’s War as well as WWI.

Hakka noodles went on to become a beloved street food.

What does Hakka mean?

Hakka refers to the method of cooking the noodles. The noodles are first boiled, then stir-fried on a wok with different sauces.

They’re then served up with a variety of meat and veggies. There’s no wrong or right accompaniment for Hakka noodles: any vegetables, meat, shrimp, or tofu will do. We add green and red chilies, garlic, and other spices to give you a bold, warm flavor.

What is the difference between Hakka Noodles and Schezwan Noodles?

Alings’ serves up both of these lovely noodle types, and they are quite similar. However, Schezwan noodles are cooked with a spicy Schezwan sauce made out of dried red chilies and a variety of other spices.

The traditional Hakka noodle sauce gets made up with a little soy sauce and a little oil. The flavor is a little more umami and isn’t so spicy. Those who like mild noodles tend to prefer the Hakka noodles.
