For the Love of Paws

"For The Love of Paws" Event hosted at Alings Chinese Bistro on July 13, 2023

On July 13, Alings Chinese Bistro hosted a “For the Love of Paws” event in cooperation with Homeless Pet Placement League.

This event was designed to help support local animal shelters and raise awareness about homeless cats and dogs in the Houston Metro, Sugar Land, and Fort Bend area.

The event was a huge success thanks to the participation and support of our elected officials, the community, and the volunteers who helped put it together. Attendees took a pet cookie baking class, learning to make pet treats from scratch. They were also able to purchase homemade pet cookies, and all proceeds went towards finding loving homes for Fort Bend animals. Face painters were on site, ready to help attendees feel as festive as possible. A gift basket raffle helped a few attendees win excellent pet supplies.

The Alings team made appetizers and soft drinks available.

We were so happy to be involved with this event. We’re very grateful to Eileen Akerson of the Homeless Pet Placement League and the Rosenberg Animal Shelter for their hard work to find permanent homes for homeless dogs and cats.

We’d also like to thank Farha Ahmed, Afshi Charania, and Maryum Khan for their time and effort in this event. They were instrumental in creating and launching it, and we appreciate how they brought this event’s moving parts together.

We’d also like to thank the elected officials who got involved for their service to the state, county, and city and for supporting homeless animals. This includes State Representative Jacey Jetton and team, State Representative Dr. Suleman Lalani and team, County Judge KP George and team, Sheriff Eric Fagan and team, DA Brian M. Middleton, ADA Ibrahim Khwaja and their teams, and County Commissioner Dexter L. McCoy.

We also want to thank the Sugar Land City Council members, including Naushad Kermally, Carol McCutcheon, Suzanne Trochta Whatley, William Fergeson, and Stewart Jacobson.

Missouri City Council member Monica Riley and Fort Bend DNC Chairwoman Cynthia Ginyard also got involved, and we’d like to thank them, as well.

At the event, Taral Patel gave a beautiful rescue story that helped to contribute to the evening’s success, so we also wanted to thank him.

Local businesses also gathered to help make this event possible, donating gift baskets to the raffle. We extend our appreciation to Wishbone Pet Care, Lake Olympia Animal Hospital, Pet Supplies Plus of Telfair, PetSmart, and Dream Dinners. We also thank all the community members who bought raffle tickets and made donations.

Special thanks to Dr. Dominic Sreshta, who donated a very generous amount of cash to the Homeless Pet Placement League during the event.

Finally, we wish to thank our friends, family, and staff members, who worked on their own time and volunteered to make this event a grand success.

At Alings Chinese Bistro, we remain committed to doing our part to make our community a better place for everyone who is suffering, including our furry friends. We were privileged to be a part of this evening and look forward to more events like this one.
